System Requirements
|
Internet access To use The SMG program on the Web, you must be able to access the Internet, either through a dial-up modem that connects through a phone line or through a direct connection, such as with a Local Area Network (LAN). Many educational institutions offer free or low-cost Internet access. Many national companies offer Internet access, and you may have local providers with competitive rates. Click here for a list of national Internet access providers. If you are connecting to the Internet through a dial-up modem, we recommend a minimum connection speed of 56 kbps or higher.
Email Each teacher, advisor, and adult participant must have an active email address. You can get an email address from your Internet access provider. Additionally, many websites offer free, Web-based email accounts, including Yahoo, Microsoft Hotmail, and Lycos.
Software We recommend you use the latest version of either Firefox or Internet Explorer as your Web browser. You can download the software for free and check the system requirements by clicking on the links below: 1. Firefox 2.0 3. Safari 2.0
While each browser has its own software and hardware requirements, we recommend you use The SMG program with Windows or Mac OS.
You will need JavaScript and cookies enabled to run The SMG program. You can change these settings in the browser’s Preferences. You need to unblock popups and will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to view most teaching materials. A printer is optional but recommended.
